Meet the doctors of The Hamilton Laser Eye Institute in Hamilton OntarioDr. Arora
Dr. Arora then completed a medical and surgical retina fellowship at the University of Toronto. He is a fellow of the royal college of surgeons (FRCS(C)) and a Diplomat, American Board of Ophthalmology (DABO ph). Dr. Arora is a medical consultant of the Hamilton Laser Eye Institute, Ontario. He was certified in the use of Excimer laser surgery in 1994 and has been performing PRK procedures since then. He is presently on staff at St. Joseph's Hospital in the Department of Eye Medicine and surgery at Chedoke-McMaster Hospitals in Hamilton, Ontario. Dr. Jeffrey Sher
Dr. Sher is the Chief of the Department of Eye Medicine and Surgery for the Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation, which includes four Hamilton hospital sites: McMaster, Chedoke, Henderson and Hamilton General. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of surgery at McMaster University, and serves as Medical Director of the Hamilton Laser Eye Institute. He is also a surgical consultant to Lasik Centers of America in Fort Erie, Ontario. Dr. Sher has practiced medicine in Hamilton since 1985, specializing in treatment of diseases of the cornea and external eye. LASIK, an eye procedure performed on the cornea, is a natural extension of this area of specialization. He was trained in LASIK procedures by Dr. Fouad Tayfour, one of the world's most experienced LASIK surgeons. A graduate of the University of Toronto Medical School and Ophthalmology program, Dr. Sher completed additional training in glaucoma at Tufts University in Boston. He has also studied cornea and external diseases at the University of California at San Diego. Dr. Sher is a past Chairman of the Ontario Medical Association Section on Ophthalmology, and of the Hamilton Academy of Medicine Section of Ophthalmology . He is a member of the Medical Advisory Committee for the CNIB Eye Van, which provides eye care to remote areas in Northern Ontario. He is an active member of numerous medical associations and societies. Dr. John T. Harvey
Dr. Harvey also does oculoplastic, reconstructive and cosmetic eyelid surgery as a member of the McMaster University Medical Centre in Hamilton. Dr. Harvey is also engaged in teaching and research at McMaster University where he is Professor and Head of the Division of Ophthalmology, Department of Surgery. He also serves as Deputy Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation. A graduate of the University of Western Ontario medical school, Dr. Harvey did his ophthalmology residency training in Ottawa. During postgraduate fellowship work at the University of Iowa, Dr. Harvey acquired subspecialty skills in oculoplastic, reconstructive, lacrimal and cosmetic surgery. Dr. Harvey's many professional activities include membership and committee work in the Canadian Ophthalmological Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Oculoplastic & Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Harvey is a frequent speaker at international scientific/medical conferences in his field of expertise. Dr. Lawrence E. Kobetz Dr. Kobetz performed the first Excimer laser P.R.K. procedures in Hamilton to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. As well, he opened the first Excimer laser center in the region. Other firsts in the Hamilton region include performing the first Holmium laser surgery for the correction of farsightedness and astigmatism plus opening the first Lasik Center in Hamilton. Dr. Kobetz has 23 years experience with Ophthalmic laser systems. He has served as Medical Director of other laser centers since 1993, and is a past Chief of the Department of Eye Medicine and Eye Surgery of St. Joseph's Hospital. He has served as president of the Medical staff at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Medical Association and is a Health Sciences Faculty Member at McMaster University. A graduate of Queen's University Medical School in Kingston, Ontario. Dr. Kobetz received ophthalmology training at U.B.C. and Stanford University. He is the winner of the Barsky Prize in Ophthalmology at Queen's University. Dr. Kobetz is a frequent speaker at international scientific and educational conferences, both in ophthalmology and computer science. |
