Dr. Tayfour - Medical Director

Highly regarded by his peers as a world leader in vision correction, Dr. Fouad Tayfour’s experience, combined with his extensive clinical research, has contributed significantly to worldwide improvements in Laser Vision Correction. Since establishing The Windsor Laser Eye Institute in 1991, the Medical Director and Chief Surgeon has performed more than 60,000 LASIK procedures servicing patients in the Windsor and Detroit Metropolitan area. Dr. Tayfour’s reputation for remarkable results and personal attention has drawn patients from around the world.

In 1993, Dr. Tayfour became the first surgeon in North America to perform LASIK on patients with nearsighted vision and two years later was first again to perform the advanced procedure on farsighted patients. Dr. Tayfour introduced LASIK to patients long before it was available in the United States and continues to provide the most advanced and proven laser technology to his patients.

Dr. Tayfour completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto from 1984 through 1987. The following year, he completed a Retina and Vitreous Fellowship at the University of Toronto.

He has participated in clinical studies and research for Summit and Nidek laser technologies, helping to develop and refine the Laser Vision Correction concept. He has authored and co-authored articles for such esteemed publications as the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, Ocular News, The Journal of Refractive Surgery and Ophthalmic Practice. Dr. Tayfour has also lectured at many medical conferences and seminars. He is an active member with numerous professional medical societies.

Dr. Arora

Dr. Arora earned his Doctor of Medicine in 1989 from McMaster University in Hamilton. He did his medical internship at McMaster University and did his Ophthalmology residency at University of Toronto.

Dr. Arora then completed a medical and surgical retina fellowship at the University of Toronto. He is a fellow of the royal college of surgeons (FRCS(C)) and a Diplomat, American Board of Ophthalmology (DABO ph).

Dr. Arora is a medical consultant of the Hamilton Lasik Centre, Ontario. He was certified in the use of Excimer laser surgery in 1994 and has been performing PRK procedures since then. He is presently on staff at St. Joseph's Hospital in the Department of Eye Medicine and surgery at Chedoke-McMaster Hospitals in Hamilton, Ontario.


Dr. Lawrence E. Kobetz

Dr. Lawrence E. Kobetz, the most experienced laser refractive surgeon in the Hamilton-Wentworth region, has pioneered applications for lasers and computers. He has introduced leading-edge technology for the benefit of his patients and the community at-large.

Dr. Kobetz performed the first Excimer laser P.R.K. procedures in Hamilton to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. As well, he opened the first Excimer laser center in the region.

Other firsts in the Hamilton region include performing the first Holmium laser surgery for the correction of farsightedness and astigmatism plus opening the first Lasik Center in Hamilton.

Dr. Kobetz has 23 years experience with Ophthalmic laser systems. He has served as Medical Director of other laser centers since 1993, and is a past Chief of the Department of Eye Medicine and Eye Surgery of St. Joseph's Hospital. He has served as president of the Medical staff at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Medical Association and is a Health Sciences Faculty Member at McMaster University.

A graduate of Queen's University Medical School in Kingston, Ontario. Dr. Kobetz received ophthalmology training at U.B.C. and Stanford University. He is the winner of the Barsky Prize in Ophthalmology at Queen's University.

Dr. Kobetz is a frequent speaker at international scientific and educational conferences, both in ophthalmology and computer science.
